Where to find Ruger #1 actions
« on: May 15, 2003, 11:39:02 AM »
Does anyone know if Ruger sells just the actions for a #1?  Or would I be better off just finding a used one and rebarreling it?  I'm thinking about someday making one into a "wannabe" Sharps because I can't afford the wait or expense of the real thing.

I don't believe Ruger sells just the action.  Brownell's does carry the barreled action, but before sinking your hard earned money into the barreled action, look around for a good used No. 1.  Those No.1 actions are built to last, nearly indestructible, so a used action that is in good shape (especially if you find an early "plum" colored one) are very nice.  There's another thread here about the barreled actions, check it out, too.

puke,
the local gun shows have used #1's for a little less than Brownells sells the barreled actions for.  The Fremont gun show always has a dozen or so of them at the various tables.  Judging by the fact that the don't seem to sell very well in NE, you might be able to pick one up in the area of $450 in decent condition.

puke,
here's a link to a fellow Nebraskan that is selling new complete rifles for $550 on GunsAmerica.  He's got an assortment of calibers, it might be worth while to take a look.

:D KciH,
Thanks for the info, I tend to miss a lot of the gun shows here in Lincoln, the last one I went to wasn't great anyway.  It's good to see a fellow Nebraskan on this site,   jpuke
