Compact velocity?

Has anyone chronographed M. vel. on a compact in any caliber with factory ammo? I'd like to compare it to the Reminton charts to see how much velocity I can expect to lose with the 16.5 barrel. I'm either buying a 260 or 708. I'd like the 708 more (200 yd and in deer rifle) but am leary of the muzzle blast. I'm hoping to find one to shoot around here. Like finding a needle in a haystack. I'll handload Barnes 140gr probably to compensate for less velocity. The factory load velocities (with the 16.5") will help me extrapolate the numbers I need. I basically need to know if these two rounds will be lightened up below a 243 when its all said and done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless!

I've never handled faster pointing rifles than these short new Rugers.



Short Barrel

There will be a bit of velocity loss compared to longer barrels, but it won't be enough to make any real difference. Certainly not enough to try loading hotter than the factory loads, tryin' to make up for the loss. I've see identical rifles with more velocity difference than what you'll have from the standard 22" barrel.
