Federal ammo powder?
« on: March 23, 2007, 04:54:09 AM »
Does anyone know what manufacturers powder does Federal use?  A friends grandson for a science project compared different manufactures powder residue (dirty) left in the shotgun barrel.  To get this data he fired a round and then he cleaned the barrel and compared the patches from start to a clean barrel.  His data showed the Federal shells used less patches to clean the bore.  Interesting.

That is certainly NOT my experience. In my guns the federals are the dirtiest of them all with the new Winchester AA HS being the cleanest. Remingtons seem to fall in between.

But to answer your question no it's unlikely anyone outside the plant woud know and it's also likely they buy from more than one manufacturer. They don't use cannister powders like we do but buy in bulk based on specs they provide. I'd not even bet the same manufacturer always provides the powder used in any given load.
