I have had a BSA Platinum for about a year now on my Ultra Varmint and have been very happy with it. It is 24 power zoom, but I usually use it at around 15

If i where u i wouldnt buy a scope that had the adjustable objective on it is just another setting u have to move every time u zoom the power in say its a 6-18-40  when u zoom the scope in to say 16 to 18 power then u have to adjust the objective to make it get clear thats what i have found out with a adjustable objectives i like scope when u zoom in thats all u do dont have to take the time to adjust the objective but thats just me

That depends on what kind of terrain you hunt. I coyote hunt on wooded, hilly ground and almost never use above 6x. If your hunting grounds are more open areas that allow 200 to 300 yard shots at times, then I would get a 3-9x or a 4-16x variable. Some here like the 6-24x and I have one too ... I just don't use it for coyotes or woodchucks. I, too, do not like an AO on a scope for this type of hunting.

Midway sometimes has a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5x20x50 for $99. It's an excellent scope, but not always available. It's a special run. I believe that they are available right now. You'd have to check their website.

I would second the whitetail classic.  For the money, I love them.  I now have 4 of them.

To take full advantage of a 12X scope an adjustable objective is a must. Out at 250 yards parallax error can spoil a good set up on a woodchuck sized animal. If it's for coyotes all you need is a 3-9X with no AO. ;D

When looking at magnification, remember - you can't hit what you can't see. Maybe your eyes can make out a specific spot on a coyote at 200 yards with 9x, mine can't. I need all the xxx's I can get. The Simmons WTC is still clear and bright at 20x. A friend of mine has one one a Winchester M70 in 300 WSM, and so far ir has held up to the recoil. I have two - one on a .17HMR and on a 22-250.

I have a BSA on my Ultra 223.  It goes up to 16x magnification.  It's minute of nutria at any range I've found one in the crosshairs.  I can't remember the low mag; never use it...

I bought a BSA for my .17HMR and had trouble with it holding zero. Mounts were fine. It might have been a fluke, but it put a bad taste in my mouth for BSA.
