deer and turkey expo
« on: March 24, 2007, 08:27:16 AM »
anyone else going to the Deer and Turkey Expo in Madison next weekend? I HATE the crowd but love checking out all the venders and new toys. Not sure how much $ I'm going to spend, but I know I'll be rejoining the NRA, and the WTA there. Since buying some land in Clark Co. I think I'll stop and talk to the W. Bear Hunters too. and lets see, gotta take the kids thru the live animal cages, and buy them some cowboy popcorn, check out seed for food plots, pull up some floor space and take a break for some brats, Buy my patrons license , and then??? I guess I'm kinda lookin forward to it, despite the price and all them people.

I was not able to make it down. I have been there off and on since the '90's, and the crowds are just too much anymore. Standing nut to butt with 8 other guys all within arms reach is more than I can handle.

So how was the expo? Did ya go?

CROWDED! But I still enjoyed it. I did rejoin the NRA and the Wisconsin Trappers Assoc. Also subscibed to Wis. outdoor journal, bought some seed for a food plot, and talked to a few outfitters about elk hunts. The only problem with the elk hunts is all the outfitters make you ride horses, and I never had much use for them. talked to Wis. bear hunters too, but I got the impression that their mostly a club for guys that chase bears with hounds -I don't. I did not buy my patron's lic. The line was too long.  I guess there were some nice deer heads there too, if you're into that sorta thing, I guess I'm not. Don't get me wrong, I would like to shoot a buck worth mounting someday, but I still just hunt for meat so if it ever happens it'll just be luck. My daughters behaved quite well as thier Dad dragged them up and down row after row, so I had to buy them a big bag of fresh off the campfire kettle corn.  :)

Good on ya for re-upping the NRA membership. Also, I too love the Wisconsin outdoor news mag. IMO that is the best source of news print there is.

Hope the kids had an enjoyable experience at the show.  They are our future, provideded we introduce them.

I took my son with me on Friday we went to the show. My personal note I was not impressed with this show.  In a show like this I expected to see more hunting products and not someone trying to sell me a hunt. Have no intentions on going to this show next year.  To me it is a waste of money.  I had a gun shop at one time when there was a dealer show you saw the new products that were on the market..
