I'm an old Hickman Kewpie, Class of '64, bred, born, and raised in Columbia where I went to college and worked the public schools awhile. I was elementary principal in Pleasant Hope for two years and Jefferson City for 13 years before moving to Wyoming in 1991. I sort of retired in 2001 but am ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of WY and have served as chaplain of Hospice of Laramie since Fall of '01 and continue in that role.
I hunted mostly in central Missouri, especially the Rudolph Bennett tract in Howard/Randolph counties. My go to gun for deer was a Rem. 700 '06 but I got after squirrels with about every legal weapon, especially .22 LR pistols and rifles. I try to get back for Spring turkey and firearms deer season when I can.
In Wyoming I shoot alot at our local range and am in a skeet league this summer. I hunt antelope, mule deer and elk with good success. My home sits at 7200+ ft. elev. and I hunt between 8000' and about 10,500'. Antelope starts in September and by the end of October my big game season is over. I get after pheasants a few times each year and that's about it.
We have some of the headliner big game species here and resident license fees are cheap. But I miss the long small game and whitetail seasons you have in Missouri. I am building up preference points and one of these days I will draw a moose permit. I hope it comes before I am too old enjoy field dressing and packing out the meat!
I reload for .223, 30-30, .35 Rem., .444 Marlin, '06, and .35 Whelen. The .22 LR doesn't get much action except at the local range. I have Ithaca M37s in 20, 16, and 12 gauge and a 12 ga. BPS.
Thanks for putting up with the ramblings of an old Kewpie and Missouri expatriot.
2005 and 2006 Wyoming mule deer taken with Rem. '06 and .444 Marlin, respectively.
