My new Stevens Model 200 223 Rem

Here it is. Picked it up Thursday Camo'd it Friday, was gone Saturday. Clear coated and went to the range today. The color didn't show up real well in the other pics that I took. Just a quick trip to the range tonite at the end of the day. Sighted in the scope, and not much else.

Keep us posted on your accuracy out of that 200.

Thanks for the reply! I'll give an update as soon as the weather straightens out up here. Several rain days in the forecast. Doesn't even look good for a quick fishing expedition on the river this weekend.

I just got one and you are going to love it. First time out shot 1/2" at 100 yds. I don't know what load I am using as my ammo is 15 yrs. old and I can't find my reloading journal. I know I was using 55 gr Speer bullets and CCI match primers. How much powder and what kind I can't tell you. Trigger is a little heavier than I like but it shoots crisp. Best buy on the market right now.

I'm just itchin to get to the range. Been bad weather here for several days. Rain, snow, windy, cold. Soon, though. I've got my new 223, a new, unfired as yet TC Omega, a new bow from last fall. Also getting fired up for fishing and camping season very soon. So many things to do, so little time.

Yeah,

I've had a pretty good run here the last few months. I forgot to mention the new rod and reel I just got for my birthday. St. Croix Legend Tournament Walleye Spinning Rod/Shimano Symetre SY2500FI Reel. Not even sure what to do with it. I'm afraid to even put it in the back of my pickup. Oh, yeah the new Rem 870 on layaway at Scheels in Fargo, almost forgot that too.

I didn't mention that I sold 2 rifles and a shotgun to finance these new toys. Oh woe is me!

Had quite a snowstorm here today. Didn't need that at all. I'm ready for spring, for sure.

BS,

I agree with you on the value of the Stevens. I just wish that the weather would straighten out. We're in a Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow, and snow and/or rain in the forecast right through into the weekend. I've only been to the range once with it and was impressed by the way it shot. I had reloads from my three previous 223s. The chambers must have been really loose in the NEF and the Contender, 'cause the reloads for them were really tight in the Stevens chamber. Liked the groups once I got the scope fairly well set. I've reloaded a couple of trial loads for it, and am itchin to get to the range.

More later as soon as the weather gets right.

One of the best things is that those reloads were leftover from a previous 223 I owned. I was only using them up/sighting in/fireforming them to the rifle. I can't wait til I find the "right" load for this rifle.

Good chance of getting to the range this weekend. Weather just might straighten out. The wife is leaving town for a school for her job. My son will be in town, so maybe I can get him to go along. Maybe even try a little coyote hunt.

Made my first real trip to the range tonite with reloads made for my Stevie 223. I loaded up two sets of fifteen cartridges. The first group were using Win Nickel brass, Fed 205 primers, 40 gr Nosler BTs, and Varget powder. I started at 25.4 grs and loaded  3 ea in .3 gr increments. 25.4, 25.7, 26.0, 26.3 and 26.6. The second group was  3 ea of Win regular brass, Fed 205 primers, 55 gr Hornady Vmax with Win 748. Starting at 25.7, 26.0, 26.3, 26.6, and 26.9.

The best groups for each set was at the 26.3 gr load level, with the Varget/BT coming in at .40", and the 748/Vmax coming in at .54". The POI for both loads was very close, which was an added bonus. I was pretty pleased with the results. I took pics of the groups but my camera batteries gave up the ghost. I'll post pics later.

I plan on loading up a bunch of each load right away. YAHOO!!

Great shooting, great groups. I have not had mine out lately, been playing with my Savage MLII. Also lots of fun and very accurate. I plan on taking the 223 out this weekend for some more work. Too many guns , not enough time.

Great looking gun! I own the same gun and it shoots 1/2" with any type of ammo I put in it. It seems to like 50-55 gr. bullets the best. Enjoy

Thanks ive been reading for a long time and finally decided to become a member. The gun is a stevens 200 in .223 with a 6-18x40 simmons prairie master and a harris bipod. It shoots most bullets under 1/2-3/4 but it shoots Ultra-max 50 gr. tnt the best at a ragged 5 shot group at 100. Sorry I didnt reply sooner I was scouting turkeys all weekend.  ;D

Sounds like a right nice Stevie there. I haven't really tried any factory stuff in mine. I've got enough bullets, primers, and powder to take me a long, long time.

Ya I found a couple Huge toms but its gonna be a challenge to shoot one with a bow. Plus I only will be able to hunt for 2 days.  :'(
