Stevens single shot Model 940?
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:43:02 AM »
anyone know anything about these shotguns?  I bought this years ago from a friend who had it in his family a looong time. 23/4 in. barrel, full choke, nice light wood stock and forend. Bead sight. Has a dog etched into the receiver- not sure what type of metal the receiver is though.
I am trying to figure out how old it might be.
Still works fine. My kids all learned to hunt with it.

It's probably a model 94C , and the receiver should be case-hardened. Pretty nice little guns, and worth quite a bit more now than they sold for new.  As with a lot a guns, the older it is the nicer looking . Older ones of course didn't have a transfer bar, so just be careful about that.  Steve
