bought another what am i going to do with it gun
« on: March 27, 2007, 02:42:56 PM »
just picked up an accusport 45. I needed another 45 like a hole in the head but sold the other 45 accusport i had and the 44 must have been getting lonely. Camel will be pleased anyway as at least its not another 44 .

I bought one the other day myself Lloyd.  I just couldn't help it.  I bought mine used though from a fellow over at the Ruger forum.  Should come in sometime next week.  GS

no its a first run gun like the one i had before. I dont have much use for shooting acps in a single action anyway. Ive got enough semi autos and das to shoot them in.

I didn't see much use for the acp cylinder either.  I got to shoot the Acusport 357 a little more today and I have to say it has one of the best triggers I have seen on a stock Ruger.
So what is the new 45 going to be when it grows up?

My gun came with the acp cylinder too. I have used it to unload .45acp that I have had laying around. Now it mostly collects dust. I will hang onto it though. At my job, you never know when there will be some extra .45acp that has to be disposed of.  ;D

Lloyd,

Here's what I did to mine. I worked the trigger to a creep free 3#, installed an Old Army hammer spring, drilled the factory base pin for a locking screw fitted into a counter sink drilled in the barrel, used range rods to shim the trigger/bolt to pin fit to minimize cylinder side to side play while assuring chamber to bore alignment, installed Bowen's rear sight and Clements front blade, removed the "warning" label and cylinder "engraving" and fitted the gripframe to cylinder frame as best I could finishing it all off with a green Scotchbrite pad. The grips shown were a trial but I have since trimmed down and re-fit the original rosewood grips. It is a helluva a shooter with either CPBC 325 LFN's s or Hunters Supply 328 gr LFN's and is really all the sixgun I need. Of course need and want are two very different things, as you well know.

looks alto like my 44. I have the same sights base pin action work only thing mine differs is the grips on mine a are scrimshawed micars that 44 man did. I had a 45 set up identical other then it lacked the scrimshaw. Should have held on to it but it just wasnt the shooter my 44 is. Maybe this one will do better. Im think of setting this one up with night sights. Clements is doing a small dot front and a two bar rear. It aint cheap but it would be nice for evening hunting. Dont know when though as im gun broke right now. In the last two weeks ive bought a 44 4 inch redhawk a 32 single six 4 5/8s and now this one. I need to get this dammed back thing taken care of so i dont sit in front of this computer spending money all day!!

Boxhead, looks great.  What was your method of removing the warning and the engraving on the cylinder?  Did you do the usual filing or do you have some other secret way   ;)?  Also, if you have a few minutes and don't mind, PM or email me how you worked out the shims and "range rod" deal.  I would like to hear more on that.  The final product looks awesome.  Thanks.  Glenn

Lloyd, keep us up to date on the surgery issue.  I'll be thinking of you, I'm going to get some xrays/whatever done next week myself.  GS

Accusport is a distributor that recieves/or orders some special runs of Rugers.  The 5.5" stainless bisleys were started with the 45 and then if my memory is correct, followed with some in 44 then 41 and now finally one in 357.  I wouldn't mind having one of the 44s myself.  I have the 45 and the 357 but I'm planning on the 357 turning into a grown up gun.  :>)

OK! I think I understand, but are they of higher quality than regular Rugers, or just minor differences like the front sight?
Do they have an action job for example?

Lloyd,
I just did the same thing but had the Acusport Bisley in 45 and found a used one in 44. Really like that package. Hope you get over the back problem. I had a Facet injection in my lower back yesterday (I think for arthritis's) and will get an epidural steroid injection next week. So far no relief yet. Ain't getting old just great?

Same quality just a different combination of the parts that Ruger already makes.

Art if my .44 is any kind of example your going to love that gun. My 44 is the most accurate out of the box ruger ive ever owned and is one of the most accurate sixshooters ive ever owned at any price. I think i could loaded it with sand and cap it with a rock and shoot into under 2 inches.
