Which Kimber? Help me out...
« on: March 30, 2007, 03:45:58 AM »
Have decided on a Kimber 1911 and I go back and forth between the Custom II and the Gold Match.  I would like a good gun.  Is the Gold match worth it?  I am mainly wanting the better trigger but I am guessing that I could get lighter springs and have a trigger job done.  Also the sights: are the target sights worth the extra?  I can get the Custom II at a local shop NIB for $619 but the Gold Match is quite a bit more. This will be a punch paper gun and is my first 1911.  (My son-in-law got one, I shot it and it is way too much fun!)

depends on what you want. The barrels and bushings on the gold match are hand fit in the custom shop and are usually tack drivers. At least mine is! The custom is a good gun for the money though. Alot depends on what your going to do with it. If its primarily a self defense gun a custom or a cdp would  be a good choise. If you plan on target shooting especially competition shooting someday your better off with the adjustable sights and the accuracy of the gold match. A good comprimise if money is tight is the target 11 its basicaly a custom 11 with ajust. sights.

Ditto on what Lloyd said.  I own three Kimbers with fixed sights.  They are accurate enough for work at the range and anything else I'll probably use them for.

I have had two Kimbers, an Eclipse Custom II and a grand Raptor with the hand fit bushings and adjustable sights.  For the extra money I would go the custom route.  I think you more than get your moneys worth and the accuracy is superb.

thanks.  I am leaning toward the Gold Match II in SS if I can swing the cash.  Which Springfield Armory 1911s compare with the Kimber Gold Match IIs?

Ill get some flack for this but id have to say none! Those gold matches are sweet guns. To throw the springfield guys a bone id say that a comparable springfied would be maybe one of the springfield professionals out of there custom shop but there quite a bit more expensive.
