My best friend growing up (unfortunately he died in a car accident when he was 18) caught a coyote pup.  He was about 15 and riding his motorcycle and saw a bitch and her pups.  Started chasing them and one of them stopped.  He grabbed it and brought it home. Fed it hamburger and had one of the local farm vets give it shots.  It was a nasty little bastard from day 1 and never improved.  He worked hard at befriending it but never worked.  It would bite you every chance it got.  Finally ran away one day.  Probably only a couple days before it would have been whacked over the head.

Agree with last two posts. Dont!   Asa Lenon had a pet yote his father kept and it attacked his mother after awhile.  Believe   Herb , Asas father had to uthanize it.    Also know of a rancher out in Montana that had  pet yote to and had to uthanize it as it bit everyone and when it started to  really bite the family, he uthanized also.   Save yourself some headaches,  leave the wild animals , especially yotes  in the wild.

You will have to buy one in a state that allows the live market.

Besides the only real use for a yote is the hide.  I'd really like to hear your plan as to use it as a hunting dog though. You think he would be a flusher or a pointer?  Actually you probably wouldn't need a gun. But I doubt he would share his kill with you.

Also many states require special permits to own wild animals. I know Kentucky does.

i helped dig 3 coyote pups out of a den, they did not have their eyes open yet some we thought these will make pets, as most animals caught that young do. Coyotes DON'T, we did every thing
we could and they never were tame, they never bit anyone but no one could touch them. i kept them out in the country and they would come to me (because i fed them) when they were about
8-10 months old they finally left.

Good day to all. falconryman, save yourself the trouble and pet a chainsaw while it is running. I had a friend who ran a trapline and he caught a small pup. kept it  for 7 mo and never had a change of attitude. the above posts are right leave the wild in the wild. good hunting......Bill

I'll sell you one. It's about 3 blocks north of my house every evening out in the CRP.I sit on the front porch and drink coffee and watch it hunt the bunch of whitetails out there.He/she looks pretty scraggly right now.It will cost you $5.00 or a pound of jumbo leeches. There's traps in the shed, lure in the basement.I'll watch from the porch. ;)
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
