Reciever Mounted Peep Sight For A LSI Puma 92?
« on: March 31, 2007, 03:36:15 PM »
I was wondering if anybody makes a receiver mounted peep sight for the LSI Puma 92. I would like to get one someday, but I
don't care for the sights come with it. The rifle is essentially it is a copy of the Winchester 92, so I would think something should
be available.

Yes.  Lyman and Williams.  Older models came predrilled and tapped.  Later models will need the services of a gunsmith to mount them.

I recently had a 'smith put a Williams Fool-Proof receiver sight intended for the Win. model 1894 on my Armi San Marco mfg'd 1892 rifle. I also have an LSI Puma 1892, which I plan to do the same with. They work great! The Fool-Proof has click adjustable windage & elevation settings, whereas their 5D is not so "precise". BTW, I had him put a green fiber-optic front sight on, too. I like it! Red's available as well. Good Shooting! jd45

Will they work on the newer models with that stupid little safety on top?

I would think it would work with the safety, but I think the dove tails on the Rossi are different size. I didn't see Rossi on list when I went to the site. After shooting my old Puma a couple days ago, I think I'll have to do something. Maybe a tang sight.

When I looked on their site the only thing I saw was a replacement for the rear blade sight with one that has a round hole in it. That's way too far forward to make proper use of an aperture type sight. The further it is from your eye the less well they work. I'd just as soon have what's on it as that. Now if a real receiver peep sight could be fitted up that would be a nice option. Tang peeps are OK for target shooting but sure are a pain in the butt for hunting use in my opinion.

Greybeard your correct there nothing like a peep sight they are just another type of rear open sight to try . And they work very well . My sons 22 had a peep sight on it and when he asked for a scope i was able to use it as a rear sight on a 50 cal muizzleloader it line up much faster and i found it made a shooter more accurate. I just thought it was a good try before someone went off and drilled for a peep sight.  But yes  nothing beats a receiver peep sight
