I recently picked up a Marlin Model 101 single hot bolt action for thirty bucks. The exterior was in horrible condition but the bore and functioned seemed ok. I stripped the remaining finish off the stock and barrel/reciever and rubbed some tru oil on the stock and cold -blued the metal back in February but never really shot it. Today I put a Bushnell 3-9X32 scope on it and took it out. All I can say is WOW! This little sucker is a shooter. I tried a variety of ammo including Ely target rifle and Federal Gold Medal and was not impressed. I then tried some cheap Winchester Wildcats. At about 35 yards it shot the Wildcats in to a ragged hole. All shots were fired bracing the rifle on the side of a tree. I love the way this little rifle handles and it is very comfortable for me to shoulder. I have got about fifty bucks into the gun not counting the scope and the way it shoots I'd say it was a bargain at that price. Now I am hard pressed to pick a favorite .22 between my new Henry and the Marlin.
If anyone sees any of these beat up rifles floating around buy it you wont regret it.
