45 ACP?
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:15:15 AM »
Anyone lined a barrel for the 45ACP round? I don't know if a factory NEF .452" barrel exists. Guess the new 45LC at .454"[?] would be close enough.
I looked at the bore of my .357 Mag Handi Rifle [NR series] and am very impressed with the quality of the bore. I looked only at the first 1/4" of the muzzle with my microscope [binocular] and it is a FINE job of reaming and rifleing. Fine enough that I'll take it to a buddy's house that has a HawkEye Borescope to check out the rest of the bore. Shoots great,,,what a great cartridge for the Handi rifle.
I have a 45 cal muzzleloader octagon barrel blank that I have thought about fitting to my Ruger 77 .308 bolt face action, and chambering to .45ACP. Should be the "CB Cap" of 45 bores. I don't know if its a .450/.452/.458 bore, tho. Ever since I read about an Argentine Mauser being barrelled to 45 ACP years ago in RIFLE magazine, I've wanted to have one. Guess it'll be a single shot, but that's ok with me.

Alan, I have been in the waiting phase of a .45 ACP Handi for a little while now. It will be created by "stubbing" the barrel and I as you think it will be a great fun round in a HandiRifle. There are others here that want them. Here is a link that may be of interest to you if you want a .45 ACP Handi...I am looking forward to receiving mine with great anticipation....

I found new 16.5 inch 45 ACP barrels for $75.00, they are even chambered.  Wouldn't take more than a day to have it on a Handi.  Larry

Hey thanks,,!
Wonder what the thread dia/tpi is on that Thompson barrel? If the thread shank is small, there is not enough barrel length to cut it off and start over [16.5" barrel].
That finned barrel sure would look neat on a Ruger 77 or even a "Handi" [?]
I live close to Lothar Walther barrel company in Cumming, Georgia. Might see what they have and spend a few more $$.
The new Handi in .45 Long Colt is very close to this idea. I think a varmint weight barrel on a bolt action would make for a fun single shot plinker, tho.
Wheels are spinning.
