Olympic Arms AR-15..how do they stack up?
« on: April 03, 2007, 03:26:32 PM »
I have a Kimber "package" available here on GBO....I've been offered an Olympic Arms AR-15 NIB 16" ...still waiting on a model...I know it has a factory Match grade trigger job done.  Are the Olympics good ARs?

Thanks Guys!
Ken

Some people don't like them and call them cheap (mainly Colt owners who think anything without a horse on the side is cheap). If it goes bang every time you pull the trigger and the accuracy is accepetable then it's a good one. If the price is right I would probably get it.

I think it depends on when you bought one. I bought one fairly recently and have no complaints. Receiver fit is very tight, overall assembly is excellent. Mine is the Plinker model so it has the standard trigger which is ok but not great. Overall I have an AR w/ forged receivers and an excellent warranty for $600. What's no to like?

By the way, goes bang every time whether factory ammo or the 3 different reloads I've tried so far. I wanted a "plain vanilla" AR and couldn't be more pleased.

My only experience was a 20" Bull-Barrelled Match Target I bought several years ago.  Over a year, I tried 78 different handloads for it, bullets from 45 to 75 grains.  The best I got was 1.25" groups, at 100 yards, with a 20X scope.  I love the trigger, but I replaced the upper with a flattop from Del-Ton, and it shoots great.  If you want a plinker I'd go for it, but if you want to blast pasture poodles at 400 yards, keep looking.

Ken2222,

I had an Olympic Arms Plinker as well and I absolutely hated it. It didn't shoot well at all. I managed to get a tom cat that grandma wanted me to get rid of but other than that it was horrible. I prefer Bushmaster. We shot those in Master at Arms school and I still hold the rifle record there using the Bushmasters.
