bullet weight
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:31:12 PM »
Just bought an AR 15 223 with a 1:7 twist. What weight bullets works best with this twist.....and what range weights should it be able to shoot well?
Thanks!

It will shoot anything up to 80 grs. The special forces guys use 77 gr. HP Match bullets in their carbines (MK 262) My DPMS has a 1 in 9 twist and it will shoot up to 69 gr. bullets accuratley. It really likes the 60 gr. V-Max, and yours probably will to. You will just have to shoot it and see what it likes best. :)

avoid light bullets, and varmint bullets.   they will fly apart just from the high rpm's.   stick with the heavier choices. ;)

Check 44mag.com, CProducts, or Midway. That's where I get most of mine.

I've had excellent luck at www.wideners.com. They're C Products mags w/ either USGI or Magpul followers. Great price and you can believe their "in stock" numbers.
