After doing some testing with my 223 hb. I was wondering what would be a good sight in distance. I was thinking 100 yds , but it seems kinda short.

I think that would depend on the distance that you plan on shooting.
The quality of a mans life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!!

You can sight in at 100 yards and have the bullet hit 1-1/2 inches high and hope you are on at 200 yards. The way I look at it, you should practice at the ranges you are going to shoot so you know where the bullet's going to hit.

For the area I hunt with my 223's I usually sight high at 3" at 100. I don't mind shooting mid and hitting at head in closer distances.
Though the advise given is good , have a sight in a 100 and check it in real distance at those you are going to shoot at.
It's a good habit if you are developing a load to actually experience the drop and POA at the distance you are looking to shoot at.

I also think 200 is a good place to start.
Maybe 100 to 150 if you want short precise shooting or 250-300 for long shots.

Also it would help if we had n idea what load you are shooting.

All your testing should be done at 100

This will enable you to really see the accuracy and do your fine tuning.  If you try to do load testing at 200 you are just staying in shape and your errors will be essentially doubled.

It's your choice but I do most of the work at 100 and move out to 250 once I am satisfied.

I start all mine at 50 yards and then move out 50 yards at a time till i get to the range that i will be shooting at . saves ammo and walking .  ;)

I think he was asking what distance to sight it in for, not to practice.
