weight to twist .308

Yes, I know it is subject to other factors but what weight would work better with the .308 in a 1-10 twist like our handi's. I checked search and couldn't get specific enough. I think I remember 180gr as being the weight from previous links. I know 150's aren't getting it for me.

Thanks Mac,
Having a hard time getting this one to group. Changing scopes today and rechecking all screws. Will reload some 168' gr soon.

I got my best accuracy with them loaded to the recommended OAL...I tried in vain to get them out to touch the lands in my long throat bull barrel I had on it...couldn't get any close till I got up to the 190 SMKs...When I sold the gun to my next door neighbor..he found the cheap Winchester 150 gr PP would shoot under 1/2" consistently and he has taken many deer with it...

Took a box of Winchester 150's and sighted in new scope. My 168 load shoots higher but it will now group. So much for that old bushnell. I can get 3 touching out of 5 if I shoot slow enough the other two are still in the 10 ring. Blankety scope, time to step up and buy a better one.

The Pistol Club I attend has an incredible program for youths...a former Olympic pistol coach coaches the youth for free. One of the points he stresses is curing flinches (or preferably, not allowing one to form). They use a recoil-less airguns, and Mr. Wang said the kids will still flinch at the sound of the airgun pop. He stresses the use of very good hearing protection, even with an air gun. My recommendation is 1) he use the airgun with hearing protection. Do NOT let him sight the gun, but let him pull the trigger with a pellet in it. This way he will be focusing on trigger pull exclusively. (obviously the gun will have to be pointed in a safe direction). 2) When he is squeezing the trigger without a flinch, graduate to a .22 and do the same thing. Then go on to the .243 or .30/30. Either is a good choice for deer or antelope, but I would choose the .243 because you can multi-task with it for varmint shooting or fall turkey hunting.

Wdad,

Sorry but I don't understand what you said has to do with a bad scope. I was getting 2 shots together (touching) and a 3rd 6" away. Found it to be a bad scope by replacing and shooting again. Thought it was my handloads. or me jerking but I went out yeaterday after the new scope and could put 3 touching if I shot 2 and waited 5 minutes between the next 3 shots. I had a bullseye target with a one inch center and the 5 were all grouped about 2" above it and could be covered with a quarter. Solution for me was a new scope. There are also some heating issues that were cured by shooting at a slower pace.

I also got 3 bad rounds in a box of 20 Factory winchester 308's When I dropped the hammer on them the cross hairs did not move from the target center. If I had a flinch it would have moved.
