Reloading .41 mag problem

Well I will start of by saying I am a novice reloader.  I have reloaded probably 200 rounds for my 44 mag.  While it took several wasted shells to get it to fit in the cylinder, I finally got the depth adjusted properly and fixed the issues.   However on my 41 mag I am having an interesting problem.  I am using a montana bullet works 220 grain LBT WFNGC.   I am using RCBS Carbide dies on a Rock Chucker press.  When seating/crimping the bullet, the SWC Seater plug cuts into the nose of the bullet as seen in the picture.  I am unsure as to why this is happening.  Does anyone know?

Are you seating and crimping in the same stroke ? and is it cutting in the top or the sides of the bullet ?

Really hard to say without a picture, but I agree with stimpylu32. Sounds like you may be seating and crimping in 1 step. You also could have the wrong shaped seating nose ( RN or SWC ).Try seating bullets 1st step then crimping them in step 2. This is what I do with all my bullets that need crimping when I use a single stage press. Now with the Dillon press it's done on different stations.

I agree with OH....if the seater plug doesnot match up with your bullets call RCBS. They will happily send you any style they have that will......free gratis.

Thanks for the replies, it is cutting the tops of the bullets.  If I can figure out how to post the pic then I will.  So should you not seat and crimp in one stroke, it says you can in the manual ......

Yes you can seat and crimp in the same step and in a strait walled handgun case it will work ok , a trick that i have learned for the seater is to cut a peice of cardboard fron a notebook back that is the same size as the seater plug and put it in the seating die , works as a pad to keep the seater from cutting into the cast bullet .

You will have to back off the seat plug just a tad to make up for the filler . and you can call RCBS and they will send you a diffrent plug , just be sure to tell them what style bullet you are using .

My cardboard fillers are still in my old RCBS 357 & 44 seating dies from 40 yrs ago. How nice it is in todays world. We didn't have a web site to go to for info back then, did we? Had to live & learn.

Have you tried using the RN seating stem to see if it is any better. It may be a closer fit than the SWC stem even if it doesn't have the "flat" on the nose.

I tried both the RN and SWC and they both cut the lead. 

So when you use the cardboard do you just cut it to the size of the sizer plug and then tape it on???

What i do is to make it snug to fit in the die so that it holds itself up inside . you could also use just a drop of rubber cement to hold it .
