.308 in a .310

Hello ,  I am going to be reloading for a AR chambered for 7.62x39imp..The barrel is a .310 bore. I would like to hear some opinions about useing .308 dia. bullets in a .310 barrel. Is there a noticeable differance in accuracy? Thanks

You need to slug the bore and see exactly what it is. If it is .310 then accuracy will probably be acceptable but not moa. IF it is any larger than .310 then accuracy will really start to suffer. There are several good .310-.311 bullets out there so unless you just have bunch of of them then you would be better off shoot .310-.311 bullets.

I slugged the barrel, and it is .310 bore ,nice smooth stainless.There are plenty of .310 bullets out there but none that I can find in the 140 to160gr. that I'm looking to try.I've seen several .311 and .312dia. that I like, but I'm leery of oversized bullets causeing high pressures.

Do a search of my posts, I posted where I tested .311 and .308 sierria 150grn pro hunters in a .310 bored CZ527. my results were that there was NO measurable difference  in accuracy

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just start with the .310 and then experiment with the .308dia..It sure would be nice to get those Horn.155gr.Amax to shoot well out of this puppy!

As long as the rifling will cause the bullets to spin they will shoot fine.

An article in RIFLE/HANDLOADER [I forget which] magazine told of how Sierra .308 110 gr HPs were very accurate in the 0.310" bore. Not supposed to be,,but the bullets didn't know it and shot very well.

A long time ago P. O. Ackley proved that shootin' .311 bullets in a .308 bore didn't raise pressures excessively. The Rugers have a .308 bore and a long leade, they don't have any problem with the .311 bullets in surplus ammo.  ;) Why one fellah actually rechambered his 6.5 Arisaka for .30-06, and didn't blow up his rifle. It was tested by the NRA.  ::)

The Sierra 110 HPs shoot great in my Chinese SKS with a .313 bore.
