Got my .243 back, Need help
« on: April 09, 2007, 08:51:19 AM »
I sent in my .243 due to barrel lockup issues, it was very loose when closed.  Got it back, and the barrel is a different profile.  It is about .65 inches in diameter at the muzzle, and has considerably more taper in it than the old one.  The old one was .75+ inches, I don't remember the exact measurement, but it wasn't much smaller at the end that the chamber.  Looks like I get to send it back again.  I figured they would have to replace the barrel, but I wanted to keep the same barrel profile.  What profile was the old one, based the the measurements I remember?  I wish I had wrote them down.  What is the new one?  They are both 22" long, including the chamber.  Just looking to be able to describe it correctly to the customer service people.
I liked the heavy profile of the old one, since it took a long time of shooting to heat it up.  Guess it is time to call them again.  :-[  The only thin on the slip was a Barrel catch heat treat, but I am sure the barrel is different.  Anyone had something like this happen to them?

Standard contour barrels will be anywhere from .625" to .700" or so at the muzzle, bull barrels are about .800", give or take .010" or so. The only fix for a loose barrel at lockup is to replace the barrel. Unfortunately, your replacement barrel is on the small end of their barrel sizes, but it sure wouldn't hurt to give em a call and see if they made a mistake and replaced your bull barrel with a standard contour barrel.

Just got off the phone with the customer service guy, He says it is supposed to have the standard barrel.  He was not sure why it originally had a heavier barrel on it.  But I can send it in and get the heavy barrel for it.  Sounds good to me.

As I am thinking about it, how much difference is there in the average accuracy for the bull barrel Vs. the standard contour one?
