Though i have never cared for their boat paddle stocks from an appearance standpoint, i must say rugers walnut stocked and laminate guns are absolutely beautiful.  They also have a great action and imho the best scope mounting system around.

No proof on either one of those posts that they used stock rifles or even savage barrels.  Wonder what type of work had been done to them?  Amazing shooting though!

Wouldn't own a Ruger or a Savage centerfire rife.  They are not accurate enough for me.  The fact that they are ugly is also an issue.

That's correct I won't keep a rifle that won't shoot MOA or better.  No desire to keep trying Rugers and Savages trying to find one.  I gave up.

Also I never understood why savage would use a 1:11.5 twist for 7MM-08 in a 22" tube for a hunting rifle is beyond me. ?????. 120GR maybe will stabilize --  140GR and above ...good luck.

Bass Pro could barely give the Savage 114s away when they clearanced them out.  The ones I examined had very shabby workmanship and finish.

The 14 American Classic has the detachable box, but if you go for the regular old 14 Classic Model you get a hinged floorplate instead.

You guys are too much!  I like lots of different types of rifles!  Savages just happen to not be one of them...though i agree they typically shoot pretty well.  Of course i dont think the remingtons were stock...i dont think the savages were either.  Just because they came out of the same factory as production guns does not make them stock to me.  They are not production line guns...im sure the remingtons were not either.  As far as me and swap man...i hardly think so.

I have brought this up to Swampman before but he ignored it for some reason.  Now I will tell him once more along with Mr. Joe.  They hold a shoot at Buckcreek, Kentucky every year where they have a factory class shoot at 200yds.  For the last three years that I am aware a $100 bounty has been offered to anyone who won that class with a Remington.  As of yet it has been unclaimed as Savage or Ruger has been the winners every year.  For information you can go to http://www.varminthunters.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2  George Coleman is the name of the gentleman who organizes the shoot and he is the person who has been putting up the bounty.

Just so everyone will know I own both Ruger 77's and Rem 700's at this time but no Savages although I have in the past.

Both.

Here is a group from my Ruger .257 Roberts:


My Ruger 7mm RM has shot a 3-shot group measuring .262”, but here is a much larger group shot in very gusty 40-60mph crosswinds:


Here is a 2-shot scope check on my first Ruger .30-06.  The rifle was shooting the same way last weekend and yesterday, as was my newer Ruger .30-06.


Here’s a 4-shot group from my Ruger .300 WM.  The first shot was from a cleaned and oiled bore:



Contrast that to my Remington M700 in .30-06 that won’t consistently group better than 1-1/4”, even in perfect conditions - as it proved again yesterday.

The cheap guns can be made to shoot ok with a lot of work and handloads.  If the Remington won't shoot 1/2 MOA out of the box with factory ammo it's not the gun's fault.

Swampman as far as I am concerned due to your statements you have no credibility at all.  As I said I own both Rugers and Remingtons and the Rugers will shoot right along with the Remingtons.  BTW, I have never seen a Remington that will shoot 1/2" groups right out of the box with factory loads.

My Ruger shoots factory ammo at less than MOA right out of the box.  It has a boat paddle stock, which I like, as well as stainless.  It is weatherproof, lightweight, 3 position safety, claw extractor, integral scope mounts.  Just to try it out, I have removed the scope, and put it back on and it still shot the same, using a quarter to turn the main lockdown screws.  Remington is good, but not "the best".

Those are some fantastic groups!  Remingtons have been the most accurate for me, but i certainly wouldn't say other brands cannot shoot as well.  I still think they are the most accurate rifles in their price range on the whole based on what i have personally experienced and seen at my club, but i also dont go around claiming other rifles cannot shoot or are not accurate.  I think remingtons strength is partly due to their consistency.  They seem to consistently shoot well, while with some other brands i have had to find shooters.  I would not belittle someone elses choice when they spend their hard earned money on a rifle.    I have seen too many accurate rifles from too many brands!  Keep up the good work with those groups!

Far less work than with the Remingotn M700 .30-06 I own - for which, after various types of factory ammo (including REMINGTON) and various handloads, I'm STILL looking for a load it will shoot as accurately as ANY of my Rugers...

1/2MOA out of the factory?  Not any of the newer Remington's i've seen - not even close...
