357 Maximum - Help Needed!!

I've got an NEF 357 Max, reamed out by me using a 4D reamer.  I've been doing load development with the Hornady 180gr SSPB and the Rem 200gr RNSP.  So far, I've found no load that shoots acceptably.  I'm using CCI small rifle benchrest primers, using H4227 and AA1680 powders.  I'm using 0.5gr increases in powder charge from min to max, and the accuracy is truly pathetic over a broad spectrum of charges.  Does anyone have any special tricks to get one of these to shoot?  Help wanted!!

Ololique,
I worked up a load for my Max that it really likes. I get three shot groups that can put all of the holes in the bullseye. I was using a target off of the bags of corn we use to fill the feeders.  I use IMR 4227 23.2 gr with Hornaday 158gr XTP bullets with CCI #400 Small Rifle Primers. I was only shooting at 50 yards though.

I am going to second the 158gr XTP bullets over RL& powder.  Minimum load of powder from noslers manual.  I don't remember how much that is off hand.  Great accuracy.  Others have said they didn't get good performance from RL7.  I am not one to worry about getting the most velocity.  This load gave me overlapping holes at about 110 yards ( farthest I could shoot then)   I haven't ever tried anything else.  Why mess with great success.

Those bullets you listed never did shoot well out of mine, I like to use hardcast 180 gr lead bullets 180 XTPs, IMR 4227 and 1680 work for powders, 1.25 groups at hundred yards is not uncommon, I think it'll do better but thats good enuff for me. I aint all that anyhow can't hold steady for long.  I only use the 140s to 158 grainer for plinking and 50 to 75 yrd shooting it will clover leaf those all day usally use titegroup and lil gun for that.

Try some 180 to 200 gr lead and see what you get I believe most of the max shooters have had good luck with 180s. 8)

I'd slug the bore and go from there, if it's a bit oversize, pick a gas checked bullet that's .001"- .002" over ther groove depth. I shoot the 200gr BTB FNGC in mine as a 35 Remington, very accurate. They have several bullets sized up to .359" or .360" that should work for ya. Use a #9 soft lead egg sinker for slugging the bore. ;)
