best policly is to not let it get carried away in the first place. If your gun is leading you either have a bullet or gun problem and it needs to be fixed. If you get a little leading in your gun and its not severe a jacketed or gas checked bullet ever couple cylinder fulls will usually take care of it. If you let it get carried away there are two ways ill clean it. Either jb bore paste or a chore boy pad wrapped around a bronse cleaning brush.

For HEAVY lead I would get a Lewis Lead Remover.

Kleen Bore makes a cloth called Lead Away that does a pretty good job. I'll cut a 1''x1'' patch off, wrap it around a bore brush, and run it down the barrel a couple of times. Usually does the trick. We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01)gypsyman

I usually spray a little WD-40 in the bore as soon as I get home and when I have time, clean with Hoppe bore solvent. Remember WD-40 can get gummy, so make sure it's not used for rust protection over long periods of time or use in the action of your guns.

 A Hoppes tornado brush works good on heavy stuff.Another method I have used and have heard used by others is to wrap a brass brush with a piece of bronze or steel wool.That and alittle bit of elbow grease works fairly quickly.Although as mentioned above you should fix the cause of the disease not just treat the symptoms. Cleaning leading is just a pain in the butt.Good luck,Jeff Taylor.

Never had much luck with the tonado brushes, seem to be flimmsy, at least the ones I've used?

I second the Lewis lead remover. I have one for each of my cowboy calibers and they get the job done

What gun and barrel length did you lead up? You can make an electroniic bore cleaner to remove that fouling.

smith 657 7.5" barrel
think the culprit was some cheaper commercial load using unchecked bullets but at a lower velocity

got it all out and accuracy restored

The best thing that I have found and only takes three minutes is shoot six jacketed bullets.  But, you need to find and fix the problem, bullet dia., powder charge, etc.
