2006 Orvis Superfine rod 1 or 3wt??????????

I was in a Orvis retail store yesterday picking up some flies for an upcoming trout trip.  Was looking at some of the Trout Bums superfines just released for 2007.  Sales associate showed me a couple of discontinued superfines fly rods in a 1 wt and 3 wt.  They are trying to unload them for $239.  Does anyone have any reviews on this 2006 superfine models?  What do you think about the price they are trying to unload them for?  I would be using it strictly for native brookie fishing with dry flies.  Or maybe even chasing some stockers.

I recommend the 3 wt.

I have an Orvis HLS Rocky Mountain, 7', 4 pc, 5 wt which fishes very nicely on small streams. It is similar in action (Orvis scale mid-flex 5.5) to the super fines that replaced it in the Orvis line up followed by the Trout Bum series. I also use a nice 8' 2 wt Elk Horn when on small streams and delicacy of presentation becomes an issue. Besides, it's real grins to get a good sized fish on the 2 wt. That said, keep in mind that the 1 wt is a rod for small flies. You are going to lose some choices of what you can cast well when on the stream. The 3 wt would seem to me to be the better choice. I think these super fines are 8' rods?? I'm sorry, but I don't remember. You must also consider where it fits with your other rods. Does it fill a useful niche?

As to the price, if it's what you want, go for it. He isn't losing money @ $239, but it's all in what you want. I think these rods have a life time guarantee aslo.

Thanks for the insight.  Theses particular Orvis rods are 6.5ft.  I don't have anything that short or light in my arsenal.  I was looking for a rod to use on the very small streams chasing native brookis.   I have a 7ft 5wt bamboo and a 9ft 5wt redington and a 9ft 9wt LLbean streamlight.   I think this rod would fill one of the holes.  I'm more worried about if that is a good price for a discontinued model?

I'm heading to the streams first thing tomorrow morning.  Fri-Sun.  I hope mother nature doesn't rain upon our trip all weekend.
