Military Surplus Rifles
« on: April 11, 2007, 11:12:52 AM »
Well hopefully I should be receiving my C&R license soon. I have been checking out a bunch of the military surplus sites.
I think I’m going to buy the Mosin models first off. I plan on buying a model 38, 44 and 91/30. I notice that most of the dealers charge $10-$20 for a hand select rifle.
Is this fee worth it. I also see that the prices for the rifles including shipping are about 1/2 the price of a local gun store prices. But at least I can pick a good rifle out of a bunch there.
I remember when the Swedish Mausers came out in the late 80’s you could buy them for around $55 and they were beautiful. Now I can’t even find one in fair condition for nearly $300.
So I think the the Mosin should only increase in their value over the years. So any info on military surplus rifles would be much appreciated.

That rifle havin' been in service for a hundred years, I don't think they'll run low for more years than you can wait. They never had near as many Model 96s, that's why the price went up so fast.

I didn't think of that. Good, so maybe I'll be able to collect a bunch of Mosins at reasonable prices.
I should of brought a bunch more of those 96s when I had the chance!

Thanks

I don't think the hand pick fee is worth it on the Mosins, they are all in good shape.

I don't know if it is true, but I heard they take 3 rifles and out of a bunch and the best one after a 2min inspection is the hand select.  The last 2 rifles I bought were (2) K31s which were great and a mod 48 mauser.  It was horrible.  Paid for hand select on all.  So I don't really know.
