All in all, I don't believe Rossi is a brand well thought of in these parts, IMHO.

First off, welcome to a very nice shooting/hunting site. This place has a wealth of knowledge, and is a very pleasant place to talk about guns, hunting, shooting, and pretty much anything else. :)

Actually, I kinda like the Rossi rifles myself, although I've never owned one. I'm of the opinion that when it comes to lever actions, Marlin is the top of the ladder ;D...

welcome Ray...what really matters is what you think about your Rossi. You say it shoots well and it sounds like you are happy with it. I myself have no experience with Rossi except for a coach gun that I bought 20 some years ago. It has served me well over the years and has become a favorite woodcock and grouse gun over pointers. There have been threads here about poor Taurus customer service, but looking at Rossi's web site and seeing that your gun retails for less than half of what a comparative Smith goes for, I guess that can be expected. Good luck with it and keeps us informed as to it's quality and accuracy.

Ray0987,

I have a Rossi Model 971 that I bought at a gunshow purely as a backup gun for hunting. I also own a Marlin 1894C in .357 mag so I wanted a revolver that was also a .357 and cheap since is was only a backup. So I picked up the Rossi. What a surprise that was. When I was home last I shot at some soda cans on our range and was able to consistantly knock them over with .38 special +P's at 60 yards. So as you can imagine I love this gun. I think you got yourself a well kept secret. Happy Shooting and welcome to the site! ;D

I had one of the 44 special 5 shot rossis and it was a great gun for the money and I probably shouldnt have sold it. There is some quality control problems with rossis but If they pass and initial inspection before you buy then and seem to do well after an few hundred rounds it will probably be a good gun and a great gun for the money they cost.

Welcome Ray! The Rossi revolvers I have handled seemed to be pretty solid guns. Of course one gun leads to another, so don't hesitate to try different brands and models. Meanwhile, enjoy your Rossi!!!
