Pyrodex generally sucks in real muzzleloaders as do most synthetic, wanna be black powders.  I bought my last batch of real black powder, the only kind I shoot, from Missouri River Traders, I believe that's their name, in Crofton, Nebraska.  Seems it was between $9.00 and $10.00 per lb., shipped in case lots, (25 lbs.).

If you shoot in-lines, you aren't old fashioned.

Dave: Old fashioned or not, you can't beat real black powder. The substitutes are just that, substitutes. A downgraded version of the real thing. The cheapest way to buy Goex Powder is to go to the Goex website, www.goexpowder.com, and click on distributors. you can purchase powder in bulk.

Thanks all for your answer to my question. I found a local person that sells it close to $16.00 a pound. I just love to shoot all types of rifles as well as hunt with them as well. Again thanks

That is a pretty good price for a local buy! Here in CT, over the counter Goex is running at around $22 + 6% sales tax.  I am definitely  getting a   25# mixed  case  of 2F, 3F, and 4F this year.  PowerInc 's price including shipping & hazmat  cuts the cost per pound in 1/2!

Man hazmat charges are a killer. A friend got nailed for some smokeless powder40 to $50.00 for a pound of powder. I just wanted a 1Lb of 2 f for my renagade and remember this local outfit that supplies an outdoor historical drama. Take care and good shoot'in

One the case of Scheutzen I order, less than 2 months ago, the Hazmat charge was only $20.00 and they told me it was the same whether I ordered one lb. or 25 lbs.  Less than $1.00 a pound for the case.  Sounds to me like someone got gouged.

6 lbs a yr.That is alot of shoot'en. I have never shot that much with blk powder in my life . I know shame on me. We use to sight our guns in and go hunting. Don't take me wrong I wish I would of had more time to shoot more. I always got my deer regardless of what I hunted with I guess I was lucky. Thanks again for the info I have ordered from graf & son before not powder but other stuff.

i buy in 25lb lots . between my wife and i we shoot close to 20lbs a year .
throught the TMA we get a discount that brings the powder down to 10.00 a lb  in cans . if however a couple of us get together and can split the gas cost  then we drive down and pick it up for 7.50lb in 25lb bags
