Load levels for Encore 45-70
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:41:19 PM »
Does anyone know if the Encore will handle the Ruger No. l level loads? For the 45-70 that is?
shot placement is everything.

According to T/C, 45-70 loads should be kept to the Marlin lever action, the middle, load levels.

Stick with the Marlin loads, but the high side of the Marlin loads and the low side of the Ruger #1 loads, just don't load up in the Ruger #1 loads and you will be alright. But it is enough to take anything on the lower 48 without a problem.  ;)

The Encore comes chambered in 416 Rigby,375H&H, 450marlin etc. It can certainly handle Ruger loads. I shoot them all the time.   KN

Thanks for the info. I won't be loading shoulder busters unless I really need them. ;D
shot placement is everything.

I would call T/C and ask...
Did you say shoulder buster?     If you come across something that a 405g, LBT, LFNGC, Hardcast bullet, @1600fps is only making it mad, I'm sorry but the 300fps extra from a Ruger load is not going to save you.

Try the Hornady Lever rounds, they are very accurate in  my 45-70 H&R Handi rifle................
