500 S&W ????
« on: April 12, 2007, 03:58:35 PM »
Has any one ever taken a NEF, 500 S&W barrel and made a muzzle loader out of it, by having a breach plug installed in it? This way you could eliminate the primer carrier.

I think there are other breech plugs available for NEF BP barrels that use primed 25 acp brass or 209 primers that don't use the carrier.  No need to go through all that trouble to fix that problem.  Check the NEF Muzzleloader forum.

I know the 25acp plugs are available.  Just look on ebay.  They are there constantly.  I am sure you can find them elsewhere as well.  As for the others, I am not sure.  You might ask this over in the huntsman forum.  There are some guys over that way that really know their stuff.

If that is the case the breechplug will need to be long enough to insure the seated bullet can't get into the chamber throat area.

Sounds like a lot of work to go through to screw up a good barrel. :P

I'd just buy an SMI barrel and be done with it, sell the .500 barrel to offset cost! ;)
