t-c hawken

i have a t-c hawken  love the rifle it
shoot great but the stock is to long and to stright for me any one have any ideas on how to put some drop  and shorten the stock  with out getting a custom stock made.

One option is to just sand a dished area in the cheek weld area, my best friend did that to his GPR, made a world of difference. He also reshaped the butt to change it slightly, then modified the butt plate to match.

Sometimes people put their black powder rifle into their shoulder, like a regular rifle.  That's not necessarily the way it should be shot.  The stock is supposed to be set in the joint area of the shoulder so that the curve of the butt stock goes into the armpit and not into the meat of the shoulder.  People who mount the rifle into their shoulder find that the rifle feels too long for their body and that it hurts when the trigger is pulled.  Black powder rifles with regular butt stocks and rubber recoil pads tend to confuse the issue of where to hold your rifle.

I do not mean to imply that you do not know how to hold your rifle.  But sometimes it slips the mind after using regular bolt actions for any period of time.

thinks for the reply crow_feather. but no i do mount the rifle in the joint  just the way you say. i have short arms on a 5ft 7in  frame. as quick said i could alter it some but you know how the hawken is made  patch box and all. and im not a real wood worker. so might have to let a buddy to do it for me . the rifle is worth the trouble  its a two barrel  set  slow and fast. so thinks again guys  and crow i allways  welcome being reminded  to stay with the basics its easy to forget
