new jack here
« on: April 14, 2007, 03:01:02 AM »
Hello, I am new to post but have been reading here for some time.I was looking at the rossi 223 varmint, then doing a web search, found H&r, then this site. I have 2 questions, hope they could be answered. 1. I am looking to get an H&R ultra varmint .223 bull, would it be best to order the additional barrels along with the gun so they will be fitted to the receiver? I know about the barrel program, just wanted to know if I buy a new gun will they fit the additional barrels to the receiver? 2. scopes, I am not one to put a ten dollar scope on a gun, but I also don't wanna pay five hundred, the 223 would be used for target and varmint, and my 10 yr old daughter and nephew for target,  BSA OR SWIFT  $129 or $219, I have read good things about both, just recently bsa c/s problems and Chinese ?    I just hope this doesn't become an addiction ;D, like I have seen here. GREAT SITE, LOADS OF INFO THANKS

1. Unless you buy a versa pack you can not get more than 1 barrel with the new gun.  You would have to send the action back and have accessory barrels fitted.

2.  Go with Swift they are much better scopes than BSA.  I've shot several BSA scopes apart, never had any failures with my swift's.  The only BSA I've had survive (out of about 15 I tried) is a BSA catseye, which seems to be of slightly better quality then their target or deerhunter scopes.

I have a Simmons Whitetail Classic on my 22-250. It's a 6.5x20x50. It is a special run item at Midway, not always available, but worth the wait for it. They are $99, and it's a great scope.

The only way to get extra FACTORY barrels fitted is to send the frame back to H&R , you can not buy a new rifle with extra barrels . Used barrels can be fitted by yourself or have a smith fit them if your not the DIY type .

You may be lucky to find one of the Factory 3 barrel combos were you get a CF , RF and shotgun barrel as one unit but the odds of that are VERY VERY slim and the cal.choices are only 1 or 2 .

As for scopes one of the Bushnell Elites would fit your price range or the Swift , both are good scopes .

Was reading a report from one of the shot shows, and seen an add somewhere that NEF is going to be offering combos.  Like the .243, .22RF, and 20 Ga.  There was several combos mentioned, I cann't remember them all but they were interesting.  How soon they actually come out with them is to be seen.

Oh yea the .22RF barrel was to be offset so the firing pin would align.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I'm beginning to think that H&R dumped the 3-barrel combos already, Sports South had them listed with zero inventory, they now don't even list them. RR has them listed and did have the two youth models in for a while, but they show zero inventoy on them and have ever since those first few were sold. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for what few H&R said they would build.
