22 hornet

just ordered a ruger 22 hornet. i will reload for it. ordered brass and dyes. i look foward to shooting something that does not kick heck out of me. order 45 gn. hornady and going to get some hodgdon Lil'gun. i have read on reloadernest that 13 gns. will do 2875 fps. sound about right?

I had a ruger 77/22 that started life as a hornet,reamed it to the khornet.It loved 40gr nosler bts with either lil'gun or ww296.You will enjoy it and they are a bunch of fun!Oh it also shot the 45gr hornady very well with either powder,and they were my favorite all around bullet in hornets.

I have a new (new to me) Savage 219 in .22 K hornet on the way, wonder if you could recomend some varmint loads with the 45 grain bullets at top speed and some turkey loads with 50 or 55 grains at 2100-2300 fps.

I mostly shot 10.5grs ww296 using either 45gr hornady hornet bullet,and also same load using 50gr bullet for turkey.Now for turkeys I used the high speed sp not the sx or blitz type,and they were going around 2550 and worked good.
Also in my 22k I found that 10grs 296 for a forming load shot just as accurate as the 10.5gr load after forming,so worked great.

I had an old Model 340 Savage in .22 Hornet that drove me nuts. It would drive tack for a while and them would not not shoot at all for a while. I was useing H-4227 at the time, about 25 years ago befor all of these new powders. Great little round, not much noise and and more knock down power that you would think.

Yes, the Savage 340 has that reputation for being "shifty" in all calibers, probably due to the barrel band which holds the barrel to the forend. There is no easy fix for that, it's a design flaw.

You are very right.  Worked on a couple of Savage 340s over the years.  Eliminated the barrel band and tried to glass bed the rifle.  Tried all kinds of other stuff, nothing worked.  Finally just gave up.
