Free Float Ruger No.1 barrel
« on: April 14, 2007, 04:50:10 AM »
I have read on several forums the topic of fee floating the barrel on a Ruger No.1 but for the life of me I can not relocate those threads.  Does anyone have experience floating a No.1 barrel?  Seems to me that the most common way dealt with the front hanger and some scew used to put upward pressure on the barrel.  If any one can help explain this to me or direct me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Send me your email, I have an article that explains how plus other accuracy tips for the NO.1. It also tells how to do a mod that equals the Hicks without spending the $40. I believe it is from RIFLE magazine.

It's a really simple procedure. Bed the forearm to the hanger. Drill a hole thru the hanger as far forward as works and tap to 6x48. A screw is inserted and a brass or aluminum washer is inserted between the hanger screw and the bottom of the barrel. This screw is used to put pressure from the hanger to the barrel. The fore arm being bedded to the hanger plays less a part in the barrel harmonics and since the steel hanger is more consistant, so is the accuracy, usually.. The washer allows for some slippage between the screw and the barrel..
