All depends on where your interests are.  You looking for a pump, springer or co2?  Any certain caliber interest you?  What kind of dollar amount are you expecting to spend?  Lawdog

A co2 would be fine or a pump. $150 down is the target money. some thing to drop the bunnies and others in the yard. Had a airline pump that was fine but by the time you pumped it 10 times the target was gone (black birds)

Winchester 1000x Review

For the price, the Winchester 1000x is the absolute best air rifle available on the market today. For under $120, no other air rifle has as many features as does the Winchester 1000x. It is a barrel break air rifle that delivers 1000 FPS with a single cock.

One afternoon we decided to take the 1000x out for test drive. The first thing we noticed about this rifle is that it has excellent balance and quality craftsmanship. It felt great in our hands and the walnut stock and all metal
construction gave this rifle some real heft. With the micro-adjustable rear sights and hooded front sights, we had no problem sighting in this air rifle. Within the first ten shots we were consistently hitting the bullseye at around 35 ft. The only draw back that we found was that this rifle has a hard trigger pull, but we got used to it after a few shots.

This airgun would be great for small game hunting or pest control. With the barrel break design you get 1000 FPS with a single cock so you won't be wasting your time pumping this airgun a million times before you're ready to shoot. We recommend this rifle for small game in the 3 to
3.5 lbs. range, such as small rabbits, squirrels and other pests.

Overall, we feel that the folks at Winchester/Daisy have out done themselves with the 1000x. No other airgun can come close to the features of the 1000x for the price. If you are looking for a great small game break barrel air rifle the 1000x is an excellent choice.

Natchez.com has this air rifle listed for sale at under $80.00 at the moment.  I don't own one but I did help a fellow club member sight in one a while back and although the trigger pull was around 6 pounds the accuracy was excellent.  Velocity was as advertised, 1017 with pellets that weighted around 8 grains.  I've read more good reports about this rifle than bad but, of course in the end it is up to you.  My daughter has a Gamo 880 and it doesn't express me any more than the Winchester and it costs more.  Lawdog

Break barrel is the way to go, I have an  RWS w/scope it's lethal , fun and quiet. They take a little effort to cock but it is one motion. Pumps take to long..DP

The forums and reviews I've seen don't give the Win 1000 good press at all - see the Review Centre a British site.  I have shied away from them.  I'm curious what you find as the price sure is attractive.

It seems like everybody agrees that the trigger on the Win. 1000X is hard and that has been the knock on them.  I admit that 6+ pounds is a hard pull but the accuracy has never been in question.  Sure you're not going to get a $500 to $1,000 Beeman import for under $80 but it's as good as or better than the Gamo 880 my daughter bought.  Of all the reviews I've been able to find on them if you discount the trigger then the reviews run 7 to 3 in favor of the Win. 1000X.  In fact with my daughters 880 getting older we are buying a Win. to replace it before the price goes up.  Lawdog

Received the airgun much quicker than I thought. I have not tried to site in, just lowered the elevation. At 10 to 25 seems right on (back yard) and really whacks them(bunnies). Cocking it takes some strength, but this is a deal. Several at work are ordering also. We have a real rabbit problem here in central Iowa. They have wiped out 3 plantings of hot pepper plants,in my garden, and the local nursery's are out of same. What are our Coyotes doing? "So many bunnies, so little time"
A friend bought a Airline at wallyworld for over $60 now he is sick about it after seeing mine. Thanks for the input.

I'm glad and you'll find that it will get better as the rifle gets broken in.  Report back to us on how everyone likes or dislikes those Winchesters.  Also keep score on the bunnies.  Rabbit populations seem to go in cycles, usually about every seven years they peak.  Out here it's the fifth year, if my records are right, so it's going to be a few years before the population drops very much.  Squirrel population seems to be up too.  Lawdog

This air-rifle is a dream, you get used to the heavy trigger. Raised the rear sight one notch and hold tight, only takes one shot and sometimes they fly up in the air. !0 confirmed kills. Hunting slacked off as only the tomatoes are left, Still have had not the need to sight in 30yd shots right on.

I purchased the 1000X three weeks ago and am hitting beer cans at 80 yards 8 out of 10 shots on average. Scopeless. Excellent gun except it takes a little getting used to the tight trigger. Bought it to keep the rabbits out of my garden.............Have'nt seen one since. :cry:
