TC Contender Questions
« on: April 14, 2007, 06:26:33 AM »
Hey guys,

I was thinking of getting a contender, and have a few questions:

1. What are the major differences between the new G2 frames and the old ones?  Is one better than the other?

2. I am thinking of getting a 357 mag, but would also like a 357 max.  I know that the mag can be fired out of a max barrel, but does  one loose accuracy because of the long jump to the lands?

3. I held an older model at a gunshow today, and it had a wood grip with a rubber backstrap.  I can't seem to find any like this that will fit the new G2 frame, any suggestions on where I can find one?

thanks alot,

The G2 is the new version of the Contender.  It has less user adjustments available on its trigger than the original.  A G2 can be de-cocked and re-cocked without opening the breech. And it is much easier to open.  I have both and like both, so it is a lot like asking which child you like best.

I don't have a 357 Max barrel, so I can't give you a good answer.  If you reload the Max barrel would be my choice.

Grips, to the best of my knowledge, are limited on G2s to what TC has to offer.  I use Pachmeyr grips on my originals, and find the rubber grip on the Stainless G2s to be nearly as good.  I can hang on to the G2 wood grip better than the wood grip on my originals due, I think , to the better angle on the grip as well as the shape seems to fit my hand better.

Either way you choose to go I think you will like Contenders.  They are addictive though, so be prepared to have more than one and a bunch of barrels.
