16 ga OO buck

I NEED (not want) a 16ga load that carries OO buck.
I have seen that only #1 is available, but in the area that I plan to hunt only OO is legal and all of my capes and my drilling are 16s

Doug and DM, please don't tell me to just buy a Valmet . 

Anyone that may have thought and ideas of where to get them or how to do it would be appreciated.

  The reason you don't see 00 buckshot in 16ga., is because not very many would fit in the shell.  Only 9 fit in a 2-3/4" 12ga..

  You could handload them, but i wouldn't...  What about a slug?

I have to agree with Drilling Man had go with slugs, I have a 16 ga SxS which is my prefered shotgun.  The only Buckshot I know of is Federal #1 in 16 ga.  Also, I am a big fan of slugs for deer.  There are several slugs for 16 ga on the market.

I have hunted and plan on doing more hunting for Sika  at Chincoteague (sp?) NWR in Virginia. Wonderful place.
After the first trip and getting an opportunity to speak to others, the perfect gun for the hunt is some form of combination.  OO buck is mandatory, even though most of the deer are well under 100#.  The "under 100#" is what makes the buckshot acceptable in the first place, where you can jump shoot these tiny deer in the tall grass.
I have two "perfect" guns; unfortunately in this case they are 16s. (a 7x57R and an 8x58R Sauer)
I have a 12ga o/u that regulates far better than it should and is quite accurate with slugs in the lower barrel and buck through the top, but when all is said and done it probably weighs 1-2# more than the guns that I mentioned above.

I can deal with a lighter payload of buck. If the velocity and group are good, even 6 pellets should be adequate.

Hey guys, I've never done much with slugs.  Is there any reservation about using slugs in 2 1/2" or 2 9/16" chambers and a full-choke barrel.  I was thinking of my Simson cape gun.  I like to carry a variety of ammo and am thinking adding a slug or two to my kit.

Remington says slugs maybe fired through any choke.  But for best results use an Improved Modified choke.  Also slugs are not to be used with Damascus steel.

  Are you thinking of using 2-3/4" slugs in a shorter chamber???  I wouldn't do that...

I can't see why you can't reload 00 buck in a 16ga. shell. As said, you may only get 6 or 7 in rather than 9 balls in the shell, but if it patterns well it should do out to 35 yards or so out of your "tight" choked gun. I would use some kind of "filler" with the load, which should help the patterning. On the other hand, like Drilling Man said, I wouldn't shoot 2 3/4" slug rounds out of your "short" chamber if you value your gun. The method and strength of how the barrels are "attached" vary alot on many "older" combo and drilling guns and I've heard of some of them "shooting" the solder loose (expensive). However, Brennekee slugs are designed to shoot in the European, tightly choked guns and I can attest to the fact they shoot very well indeed in my drilling. I once lived in Virginia and know of some of the areas of which you speak where only "buckshot" is allowed, but I did not know of the "00 restriction; otherwise, I'd use the #1 buck of the factory load, for it still carries twelve (I believe) 25cal round balls that are very "lethal" given the short range "jump" shot" opportunities you might encounter. Check this ammo company - they had 2 boxes on their tables of Winchester (grey box - red writing) at a gunshow I worked this weekend - I noticed it as I hardly ever see buck in 16 ga. and almost bought them as sale items but have never had anyone ask for it.
