How do I get the rust off?   Droil has been helping but the rust is still there?

Droil?  I've never heard of it....

"If" the rust is "through" the blueing, then your going to have blueing loss!  There's no getting around it!

Take a piece of aluminum foil about aprox. 3" square and crumble it up...  Spray the rust with oil  (i like to use Break Free) and get after it with the crumpled foil...  It will remove the rust and you will have minimal blueing loss around the spot...

On hunts i use bacon grease, and it works very good too..   ;D

I use both Kroil and Flitz.

I believe Flitz is a German invention. I use it in the bore too.

I'm working on a 20 gauge that had some bad rust after sitting in an unheated cabin past 2 years.

Here's a couple of pics before and after using Flitz only on the portion where the two big spots of rust were.

I do use Flitz on my shotgun rib too with a q-tip.

It's not magic but another option for you. Flitz is found in most gun shops.

It will not hurt bluing.

Bearfat,
I have Fitz that I use for cleaning the knives, but I did not know it worked on bluing...  I will give it a try.  I have only a few ounces left, I guess I need to get the gallon like you have...  ;)

In looking at the barrel in the sunlight I noticed the rust was through the bluing.   The aluminum worked to get that deep rust out.
