.300 win mag OAL/loads
« on: April 17, 2007, 07:25:54 AM »
I have a 300 win that is 26" standard TC bbl the sammi oal shows 3.340 using freds oal gauge I show that a 150gr nosler partition green ballistic tip bullet touches my lands at a oal of3.59. This is going to be the 1st time I have hand loaded any cartridges and am just trying to get some things straight before I fill the case. How far off the lands should I be for accuracy I know about starting with the sammi but it just seems like a lot of differance between that and where my barrel is I am gonna be using IMR4350 and cci250 primers any suggestions .thanks Kurt

My best advice to you is, play with different lengths. Start at the listed length and work your was out. There is no magic number to tell you, your barrel may shoot differently than mine. Experimentation is what it is going to take.  ;D

Yep again but, usually for the regular copper clad lead bullets, barely off the lands is best.  For Barnes bullets, you need to be a bit further off.
