Savage MK I FVT target rifle
« on: April 18, 2007, 07:28:13 AM »
Last summer I purchased a MK I FVT since it was just what I was looking for. Bottom line: I haven't been disappointed in the purchase. The action is similar to an Anschutz bolt action, at least according to some aficionados, and it has slicked up nicely. The accuracy is more than adequate with loss-leader ammo, and I haven't been able to test it with some real honest target rounds.

I'm wondering if there are any other owners out there of these rifles, and what your input might be. I couldn't find one locally, but a gun dealer in Lewiston ordered one from the East Coast and had it quickly.

Hey there Jacko,

We do need to get together, providing of course you don't bring any "B&Cs" on site, and shoot some of the pricy stuff.

I do have a couple different Lapua ammos (also the different bullet sizes) as well as Eley, Rem/Eley, two different Wolf match ammos, some of the good Federal (no longer in production) match, and a bunch of different off the shelf types.

One which seemed to do quite well was an old Federal ammo you gave me one time, but then what should I expect from my fine Clark Custom, 77/22 RUGER, repeater w/the fantastic ten shot clip?  It, The Fed ammo, wasn't up to the fancy stuff, but probably good enough for a B&C owner like yourself!

We might want to wait until it warms just a tad and then go for an early morning/ late evening session (calm wind I hope!) and meet up some where between Potlick and Dreary for a shooting session.  Kind of like the shootout of the Deary/Harvard cutoff.

Folk will probably be talking about it for years, "Why I remember when the Ol'Coot from Deary called out Jack Gillbert from over by Potlick, and -----------------------------------------."

Yep, bound to be the thing stories are made of!

Keep em coming!

Well I'm certainly up for it!! I checked the Savage and sure enough that action looks a lot like the one on the new Weatherby .22. Someone previously said it was close to an Anschutz action.

If you read the "Rifle" magazine they had a section on .338 cartridges, and the Lapua sure was a hot one!!

Hang in there.
