TC Stock Finish
« on: April 18, 2007, 01:12:22 PM »
Anyone have any idea what TC factory stocks are finished with?  I just finished a Gunstocks Inc. thumb hole stock for my G2 rifle, and want to strip and re-finish the nearly blond walnut factory stock with some darker stain.  I want to use the right stuff to strip it.

The Gunstocks Inc stock is great, by the way.  They were good folks to deal with and the product is first rate.  I ordered mine one inch longer lop than factory, and it fits like a glove.  I also had them install a Limbsaver pad just in case I get a big kicking barrel.  The wood is great, the fit is great, and it looks great now that it has six coats of Tru-oil on it.  Highly recommended!

Thanks for information!

Hello Keith,
What did you use to cover the pistol grip cap? I just ordered a standard walnut stock from them and noticed that I will need to fab something up to cover the mounting bolt hole.

On the gunstockinc stocks I built I used the same pistol grip cap that T/C uses.  It fit about perfect and just needed a little sanding.
I called T/C and was going to order them but T/C sent them to me for free.

I just contoured the wood the way I wanted it and left the hole.  I thought of making one of aluminum (available and easily worked) but decided to leave it wood.

I seem to get mixed results from TC. Sometimes they send me locking bolts and such for free, and sometimes they charge. I'm going to try and fab up a piece of brass for this one or find a coin that will fit reasonably well.
