h&r .45 colt carbine
« on: April 20, 2007, 12:45:38 PM »

This is my first post anywhere about anything, so please wish me luck ! Has anybody out there heard if the new carbines are shipping yet from the factory? I ordered one from a local shop a month ago and they haven't yet contacted me that it has arrived. Thanks for a great place to talk about handi's and such.

Welcome to GBO and the nutty world of Handi's , the Colts are just starting to show in some dealers , not sure just how many H&R made in the 1st run , they are also starting to ship acc. barrels in 45 so it should be soon depending on who their wholesaler is .

I was at whittakerguns this morning.  He had 2 on the shelf.  You should check him out if you know you want one.  His prices can't be beat on other handis.

Whittakerguns.com

He will ship anything, so no problem there.

I ran across one last week at a gun shop.  I'd been hoping to see one, since I'd a mind to get one.  Really disappointed in the rifle.  Crude looking and crudely machined.  I love NEF's and it was a shock to me. The checkering pattern especially disgusted me.  Looks like it was drawn on by a 6 year old. Still, I stood there for about 15 minutes trying to change my mind; just couldn't do it. While hardly an expensive rifle, they could do a LOT better.

Dinger, welcome to the handi rifle site, i have learned alot here about the handi's, but the more i learn the more i buy, i was in a shop last week he had 2 45 long colt carbine rifles in stock, i don't want or need a 45 long colt, the wood on these were nice i would like one in 30-30 or 45/70 shorty barrel set-up, good luck on yours, sometimes it takes a little time to get one.

I saw one at a gun show in February. I made a post on it here and will agree. The BC and the Carbine stocks looked like brown stained oak. The case hardening had bare metal spots in the action and butt plate both. There was a milsurp Smelly laying beside them that had nicer wood. Neither rifles were attracting attention and you don't fondle unless receiving permission. This had to be one of the first produced, but anybody criticizing Winchester quality would have had a field day with these 2 H&R's since it wasn't long ago you could get a m94 for $340 which was the asking price for these NEF's. I've observed nice pictures on this site of the various handi's, but I actually was taken aback by these 2. None were sold at the two day show.
