S&W M1500 RT?

I need to know the rate of twist in a S&W M1500 rifle that is chambered in .243 Win?

It will probably be the same as all 243s but you can measure the barrel and slowly run a cleaning rod thru it and measure the twist rate compared to barrel length.   JIM

I would be willing to bet that you could look up the twist rate for a Howa 1500 and that would be the twist you've got as s&w 1500=Howa 1500

I would do this, except I haven't taken possession of the rifle yet. And I might not due to a 2002 safety issue recall notice for certain Howa (S&W) 1500 rifles, which involves the possiblility the rifle might discharge before the bolt is locked. I'll have to check the serial number on this particular rifle to determine if it is one of those on the recall list. I'm certainly hoping it's not because it's a really sharp looking firearm that is equipped with a Redfield scope, and a good leather sling.

You know, you're probably right about this... So does anyone know the RT in a Howa 1500 rifle chambered in .243 Winchester?  ;)

I am going to go out on a limb and say 1 in 10 for the 243 as the 6mm and 244 Re. are in a 1 in 12 rate.  JIM

Most twist rates are determined by caliber than Manufacturer   JIM

I just discovered some bad news. The Howa (S&W) 1500 rifle I'm interested in has a serial number that qualifies it for the safety recall. However, this rifle was part of a collection belonging to a man who passed on, and this is how it ended-up at the gun shop I visit regularly. So, is there any possible way to determine if this particular rifle has already received the safety upgrade?

I was informed today that the particular S&W (Howa) rifle I was counting on buying had not been upgraded. So I won't be buying it.

Oh well, the conservation club I belong to is sponsoring a gun show next month. Maybe I'll find what I'm seeking there.

The recall was for an issue with the bolt shroud.  If you buy the rifle you can mail the bolt to Howa and they will replace the shroud at no cost.  I bought a 270 a few years ago and mailed them the bolt and they upgraded it free of charge.

Don't S&W still do the upgrade? I had two of them done, could not tell the difference, you only have to ship the bolt to them. I called or wrote them ( don't remember which now) and the sent me the stuff to send them the bolts, had them back in about three weeks, if my memory is not to faulty.
