New 30-06
« on: April 22, 2007, 05:30:55 AM »
I went to Gander Mountain this morning to pay on my Ultra Varmint Fluted 22-250 Well on the used gun rack they had a Handi Rifle 30-06 in mint condition for $121.99. It has a 4x32 simmons scope on it. Well it followed me home. I am now the proud owner of a 30-06 the letters indacate it is a 2006 year NW. I can't wait to go out and shoot it. They also had a 22 Hornet there for $179.99.

Great Deal, Lucky Dog.  With that gun you are set for anything you want to hunt in the states.  And with a good back-up (A guide or friend) anything in North America.  If you want to shoot Varmits with it the SPEER 125gr TNT works great.  And low recoil (In my openion) since you are only pushing 125grs at around 3100fps.  And they really reach out there.

Thanks guys. The guy at the counter said it was put out yesterday. I told him at that price it won't be there long. I never run into good deals. I just couldn't pass it up.

That's funny. LOL ;D When I brought it in the door my wife got on me a little. This makes almost $400.00 this week. This week I picked up a 243 barrel standard contour a 204 fluted barrel and now the 30-06 Handi Rifle. I need to put the brakes on for a little while.

I would appreciate a range report. I like any range report 8)  I have been toying with the idea of a 30-06 in a Ultra. Trying to think of a way of getting Laminated stocks with it ::)

Trying to think of a way of getting Laminated stocks with it ::)

You can swap stocks easily, buy or trade for a set in the Classifieds here, buy a set on ebay, or order them direct from H&R, prices are listed in the FAQs, although those in the 2005 Retail Parts Price list are uncheckered. I'm rather fond of the lam stocks, most of mine have em. ;)

Hello

Very good deal, Dale. I almost never find deals like that, and when I did I hee-hawed around and they were gone. This Gander Mountain is it the one near H-burg? we only have Cabelas in our neck of the woods in PA. and its about an hour drive. I must make it a point to get to a GM.

Have a great day

Joe

Dale, when myself and my wife were in PA last year for my mother-in-laws funeral we stayed a while and I visited that Gander Mountain store in Greensburg. I sure wish they had them around here. It was a nice store....<><....:)

I priced the cinnamon lams about a year ago. With checkering they were about $90 - $95, uncheckered was a little cheaper. If I remember correctly from H&R :-\ I got the idea of buying a Ultra then sending in for a 30-06 barrel. I really do not want a .308 and a 30-06 :-\ I do not want a .243 and I already have a .223 Ultra with a couple of extra barrels. I could buy the stock set like you suggested, but I am a cheap skate ::) Just trying to figure the best angle. It is half of the fun ;D BTW I know you pretty well. I have been looking at this site for the past two years 4 - 5 times/week. In fact I know all of the regular posters fairly well. Just decided to join because there were times I wanted to comment on posts. I do not have many questions, because you guys cover every thing so well usually more than 1 time. You will get to know me better as time goes on. It looks to me that most of you think along the same lines I do, that is why I like it so well. And I do like range reports, very interesting, even If I do not have an interest in the caliber/chambering. It makes me dream of getting out and doing a little shooting, no matter the gun.

Imagin you guys if I had as may Handi's as Tim I could be in a carvers heaven recarving and recheckering all those stocks. Perhaps several years of work, if I was looking for work

I am having my eyes fixed with lens implants which I hope will improve my vision so I can checker again. Some of the European target rifles have stippeled grips
this makes a very attractive alternate for checkering.

The H&R lam stocks are great to remodel and come out very nice.

Dale,

That was a heck of a deal you got. You never find a deal like that around here. I wish I could go up there and buy the .22 Hornet. I have been wanting one of those. You will have to give us the range report. It was probably traded off by someone who couldn't get the accuracy they wanted and didn't know about this website. ;D

Tim,

I just have to ask you this question....? Is there a caliber that is/has been made in the handi that you do not or have not owned? I showed my wife the picture and she just gave me the "there is no way in heck" look.

You know I only went in there to pay on my other gun. I was only going to put down $60.00 on it then. When I saw that I had to have it. I will be broke all next week and have to put up with the wife over it. I guesse I can deal with that. It is a sickness!
