Austin & Halleck info needed please...
« on: April 22, 2007, 03:25:16 PM »
Local shop has an Austin & Halleck .50 Flinter that im thinkin of picking up. Anyone have any experience with their guns? Fit and finish looks good on it but how do they shoot? The one Im lookin at has a 1-66" twist for roundball which is what I want to shoot out of it.

Well they are out of business, but poor accuracy ain't the reason. If the fit and finish are good it is probably ok, but they did make some out of their parts stock that lacked the fine finish work, and who knows about the barrels they used on those?  ::)

I had one and it shot very good. I had mail ordered it so I had no way of examining it first. They ended up sending me a new rifle, and it had a few things to work out too, but after I got through that, it was a nice rifle. I found out I was not that interested in flinters, so I let it go and got a new percussion gun.
