Hi Cap mag for Astra A-80?
« on: April 23, 2007, 09:16:26 PM »
I have a Astra A-80 in 45ACP. which I really enjoy shooting. They were made during the ban, so only the 9 round mags were built by Astra. Since they have the wide grip profile, I was wondering if anyone had ever come across a higher round magazine for them, or found a magazine from another handgun that would work in them.
Thank you.

I think Astra was designed as a 9 rd pistol in .45ACP. There are still magazines available for these pistols, but at a premium price! I have an A-75 in 9mm that I bought thinking it would be a good CCW. It's a fine built little pistol. Way too heavy for the size and caliber to carry very well. If you need additional magazines for your pistol you might check: http://www.jocoemprise.com/pistols/astra.html

If you plan on keeping this pistol as a shooter, you might want to pick up some extra magazines before they dry up completely.

I have an Astra A-75 .40 S&W, in what apparently SS (two gunsmiths disagree, one says it's nickel) , it will be my carry gun when I get my CCW soon. I like the weight of it!

I lucked out, and found 2 factory mags at a garage sale, and then 3 more SS mags at a sporting goods store that was closing, total for all five were less than $30!

That little A-75 has impressed me and several friends of mine, it fires everything, something a friend's S&W "Shorty Forty" can't do well at all, at about twice the price of the A-75.
So far, i have put about 500 rounds through it, with zero malfunctions. It doesn't care how you hold it, it just shoots and shoots. My friend's "Shorty" has to be held in a death
grip to avoid feed issues, and even then, it hangs up once in a while. It's going to be sold, and replaced with an A-75. Too bad Astra is gone.

I still regret selling my A-90, great gun too!
