A friend has a 1911 that was engraved in Japan shortly after WWII, according to his uncle who gave him the gun, it was blued with a cyanide bluing which is almost black. It has Ivory grips, with a set of Captains bars inlayed on one side, and pilots wings on the other.
The gun is in remarkably good shape for its age, and the light dances off the engraving like it bounces off a diamond. I have two engraved, a model 10 Smith Stainless, and a nickle PPK, neither are half are pretty as the 1911.
