Ruger 77 MKII in 243
« on: April 24, 2007, 10:19:26 AM »
;D This past weekend i picked up a used MKII in 243 for $ 549. The catch is it had a 3-9x40 Burris Signature Select scope on top. Took it to the range with Green box 100gr and it shot right around an inch for 7 groups. The smallest 3/4 and the largest 1 1/2 inches. Overall I was pleased with the deal. The rifle looks brand new and not used in anyway. What do you think of the package and did i get a good price on the rifle and scope? I will use it on Goats, yotes and Mule deer here in New Mexico.    Jess :o :o

FWIW  I think you did very well!  I like Rugers for sure and I dont have a problem with Burris either.

Sounds to me like you did very well. Congrats!

If it was me I would float the barrel, polish the trigger and call it good.

The trigger breaks at 3 pounds and is like glass has a Timney in it already. I will free float and bed the action in  the near future. The rifle shoots so well now i almost hate to mess with it. But, i'll bite the bullet and get it to drive tacks when finished.,  Jess ;D

I'd leave it alone, sounds like you have only tried one loading, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"...You might create a problem when you don't have one...If you use it a few years and point of impact changes then free float, bed, etc...I've killed about 150 deer with the CoreLokts they work as well as any.

;D I must agree with you. I have used the Green Box more than any other load. i used a 180gr 06 load to kill my 390 class Elk 3 years ago. I think i will leave my rifle alone. If it's under an inch already it won't improve much. It's bout as well as I can shoot anyway. Jess

Very good deal.  A local small gun shop has a slightly used 77 MkII in 243 with an awful Tasco for $525.
