Heritage Mfg. Rough Rider Revolvers
« on: April 26, 2007, 11:11:49 PM »
What's the scoop on these?  Are they made well?  Are they good shooters?
They seem to be a solid value for the price and they ARE American made.  Thanks for any input.

On the less expensive models the frame is some alloy (pot metal) which is painted black since it can't be blued. The paint wears and chips and soon looks rather crappy. I've ordered several of them for friends and they seem to shoot OK. They now offer a steel framed model, casehardened and with adjustable sights but those extras run up the cost so that it's not too much cheaper than a Ruger which is a much better gun. If you just want a cheap gun to stick under the truck seat and you don't really care what it looks like, then the Rough Rider is a good choice.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

They sell for around $150 here , for what they are thats ok , given that i can get a Ruger Single Six for about $100 more i'd go with the Ruger and have a 22/22mag that will last a lifetime .

I've seen them out here, too, and I guess the safety on them leaves me a little cold. You can't go wrong with quality, so I'd spring for the Ruger all right.

When I was looking for a single action 22 their low introductory price got my attention but then I looked one over and started to thing about the features that I wanted and came to the conclusion that the Ruger is a much better gun so bought a stainless Bearcat. Maybe for a beater gun it would be fine but it wasnt for me.

Good day gentleman, I save money when I can but buying one of these is not saving money it is costing a lot of frustration. I have one and it is far from being dependable for anything other than a paperweight. A fellow would be much farther ahead to get a ruger...........Bill

Whoa there!  It depends if you are looking at their .22 (yes, cheaply made) or their new .45's.  The .45's are built by Pietta in Italy (or the parts are supplied by them and assembled here) and are quality guns.  I have handled the .45's and I am very impressed!  I'd buy one of these in a minute.  They are priced at $350 blued and $380 nickled locally.  44 Man

Good day Gentleman, My prior statement was in reference to the .22. I have no experience with the .45. I am now more informed. I still think a ruger is a better choice.....Bill

I've had one for a few years and wish I could find a home or it. It looked good at first but it has not aged well. It is a satin like stainless that has lots of gaps in coverage. Sent emails to factory and never got an answer. I'll sell it cheap.
