Hi guys. I want to polish the bore of my 204 Ruger barrel and I can not find any Flitz or JB in any stores around here. Would it be ok to use rubbing compound to do this? Maybe if I only gave 30 or 40 strokes rather than a hundred.

NO , rubbing compound has grit in it that will trash your bore , if you can't find Filtz or JB look at some other metal polish
but do not use anyhting with an abracive in it .

Dale, have you looked in your local grocery store?? Maas, Simichrome or Flitz is carried in several around here, you'll find one of em in the kitchen/laundry section, they're just fine metal polishes.

tooth paste is said to be the finest polish available....and just like I told you....it's already had around 80 strokes of Flitz...I'd just swab it and shoot it! It like 40s and 32s....try 20 in# on the forearm screw....

oh yeah....Kmart, Kogers and Meijer all carry Flitz the kitchen areas....

I just went down to the local hardware store and I found the Flitz there. Ken I don't know what you mean about ....try 20 in# on the forearm screw....

20 inch pounds of torque.....seems my screwdriver "breaks" at 19 1/2 inch pounds.....remember I told you about my "screwdriver"......

an inch # torque wrench....sure...any Harbor Freight stores anywhere near you? if you're gonna drop the bread for a wrench make sure you get a WRENCH...every forearm and barrel could react differently...a torque wrench is THE way to go.....if you're gonna play with Handis...I'd say thats critical!

I used a FAT wrench or Utica TS35, see the link in the FAQs. The Uticas show up on Ebay regularly.

Dale....the price in the FAQs was $48-$60. depending on where you buy it....looked like a good set up to me...if you have plenty of tips I'd have to say a "# torque wrench just might be a little cheaper....mine is about thirty years old so can't use it as a reference....in fact I need to get it checked....though it hasn't been used at all since its last check. Tim says he likes 24"#s...so....

New prices for both are posted in the FAQs link, Ebay Uticas sell for as little as $10, I got 6 of em for $25 shipped, 3 were good, the rest were wore out and inconsistent.

Sears here on the Cape had inch/pound screwdrivers on sale for 1/2 off in last weekend's sale circular. Give your local Sears store (tool section) a call and see if the sale lasted all week, it might still be on...good luck....<><....

MSP, the cheapest one they have online is $150, that would still be $75 if it was half price.

They used to have one that cost less, but they no longer carry it. Eric Brooks carries some that aren't too expensive, but he's usually out of them as he is now.

Well I Flitz the bore gave it about 150 strokes. If it stops raining I will go to the range and shoot it tomorrow. Range report comming soon.

Unfortunately you'd need an adapter to use it for anything but a T-15 torx head.

Brownells for JB's Bore Polish ?

I once read that tooth polish contains very small abrasives ?
